"Why, oh my God why?"
"Are you mad?"
"Rather you than me, mate..."
"You're brave."
"Why on Earth would you want to do a thing like that?"

These are just a few of the positive, supportive comments I have received from friends and relatives since announcing my intention to become a teacher.

"Well, now I know you're mad."
"That's the worst one, you know."
"Ha ha, good luck."

And these are the comments on discovering that my chosen subject is Maths. (Or, for American readers of this site - "math".)
